DAY WITHOUT ALCOHOL MARKED IN MOLDOVA ON THE EVE OF NATIONAL WINE DAY

Moldova is marking the National Day without Alcohol on Thursday, within which an information campaign “With a Sober Mind” is being carried out.

According to the National Center for Public Health, within the campaign experts are meeting and discussing with citizens, telling them about dangers and benefits of alcohol, about consequences and risk of disease from alcohol beverages consumption.

The World Health Organization (WHO) data show that the Republic of Moldova is among countries with a high rate of alcohol consumption. In 2013, around 16.2 liters accounted per each Moldovan citizen, aged over 15.

Lately, the number of children, teenagers and women, who are consumings alcohol, went up, the fact that represents a risk for the demographic situation in the country and contributes to growth of mortality, which is twice higher than in the developed European country. Population expenses for treatment of diseases in 2013 made 1-3% from the GDP growth, exceeding 2 billion lei.

Already two days after the “soberness’ holiday”, the National Wine Day will be marked in Moldova during two consecutive days – on Saturday and Sunday.
