Veris eliminated from Europa League

Another Moldovan team failed to go through to the second qualifying round of Europa League. After FC Tiraspol, Veris Chisinau was also eliminated from the competition. The team trained by Lilian Popescu lost the return game to Litex Loveci 0-3, after the first-leg match ended in a 0-0 draw.

The match set to take place in Bulgaria was postponed for a day and transferred to Sofia because it rained heavily continuously in Loveci on Thursday evening. Jackson Mendy opened the score in the 27th minute, while in 5 minutes Veris received another blow. Dumitru Bacal was eliminated after he was shown two yellow cards. In the second half, Nicolae Milinceanu hit the bar of the goal. Columbia’s Wilmar Jordan Gil scored two goals in the 63rd and 74th minutes and set the final score at 3-0.

“It wasn’t easy to play against Veris. This team’s defense is very good. I’m glad that we managed to score three times,” Litex coach Krasimir Balakov said in a news conference after the match. In the second qualifying round of Europa League, Litex meets the holder of the Hungarian League’s Cup Diosgyor.
