Criuleni District Council accused of causing damage of 20m lei to state

The Criuleni District Council is accused of causing damage of 20 million lei to the state by staging a public tender contest and accepting a thrice higher price than the real cost of the works. In a news conference at IPN, Andrei Donica, the leader of the initiative group for founding the Association for the Prevention and Combating of Corruption, said that a number of education institutions from Criuleni district had the windows and doors changed. The District Council pledged to pay over 33 million lei for these works.

Andrei Donica stated that the tender contest was held last year with no money being budgeted for the purpose. After the works were performed, the Council paid only 5 million lei. The company that won the contest sued the Council.

The Association for the Prevention and Combating of Corruption established that the real price of the changed doors and windows is about 11 million lei. The company that won the contest was registered at the Licensing Chamber seven days before the results of the tender contest were made public.

Also, at the end of last year the Criuleni District Council purchased two vehicles at exaggerated prices. The tender contest involved two companies that had one and the same owner. “A tender contest was again staged in order to appropriate money from the state budget,” stated Andrei Donica.

According to the activist, this year the political parties need a lot of money for the election campaigns and will look for new methods to embezzle it from the state. The Criuleni District Council is headed by a Liberal-Democrat and he was definitely supported by his party in his acts.

The Association for the Prevention and Combating of Corruption calls on the competent state bodies to examine these cases, which are not unique, according to the organization.
