Deputy bribery suspects sentenced to 30 days, so far

The two persons suspected of an attempted bribery of a parliamentarian have been sentenced to 30 days of custody, so far. The National Anti-Corruption Center (NACC) press service announced that this decision was taken by the Sectorul Buiucani Court of Chisinau last Sunday.

The suspects were arrested on last Friday in a Chisinau club. At the moment of arrest, they had over them US$250 thousand, which should have been handled over to a third person, for ulterior transfer to a ruling coalition deputy. During the investigation, the people who ordered the bribing of deputies and the origin of the US$250 thousand are to be discovered.

After the Friday arrest, media wrote that one of the detained is Vitalie Burlacu, former Ministry of the Interior (MoI) officer. He is considered a person close to the former MoI Minister Gheorghe Papuc, whose councilor he had worked. During the April 7, 2009 riots, Burlacu has been photographed when beating protesters. On Friday, these photos have again been published on different sites.

Also there has been reported that a possible deputy to be bribed is a Liberal-Reformator Anatol Arhire. His name is mentioned in a telephone conversation of one of the arrested with the person, who ordered the bribe. Arhire himself categorically denies that someone to negotiate with him about leaving the party and the ruling coalition.
