Independence Day celebration program announced

The celebrations to mark the 23rd anniversary of Moldova's independence will start on August 26 at the Palace of the Republic with a National Awards ceremony featuring 8 nominations, IPN reports.

The Government said in a press release that on Independence Day on August 27 the celebrations will start with a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument to Stephen the Great in the center of Chisinau and the Mourning Mother statue at the Eternity Memorial Complex.

Cultural and artistic manifestations and thematic exhibitions, including a parade of traditional garment from across the country, will be held throughout the day.

In the evening, a concert will be held in the Great National Assembly Square, which will be opened by the famed folk dance company Joc, followed by the renowned folk band Lautarii. The concert will also feature Angry Band, Geta Burlacu, Pasha Parfeni, Catalin Josan and Anastasia Lazariuc.

The celebrations will culminate with a fireworks show and a hit-parade concert under the slogan “My Heart is Moldova” featuring Cristofor Aldea-Teodorovici and his band.
