Moldovan, Qatari officials broach economic ties

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca today met Qatari Deputy Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani. The sides discussed opportunities to develop the economic and political relations between Moldova and the State of Qatar, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

Leanca thanked the Qatari side for the attitude and support provided to Moldova. At the same time, he expressed the country’s interest in turning to good account of relations with Qatar on more dimensions.

“We want to build a strategic partnership with the State of Qatar. There are important trade opportunities to be used between our states”, he said.

A special topic was related to the export of Moldovan fruits to Qatar. In this context, the sides tackled the organisation of informing visits by business people from Doha to Moldova. Also, the sides approached the launch of air flights that will connect the capitals of the two countries.

In 2013, the Moldovan Embassy in Doha was opened. This is the first diplomatic mission to a member state of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Arab world.
