Chisinau Mayor against marking Victory day on may 9…

Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca believes the date of May 9 ought to be marked in Moldova not as the Victory Day, as the tradition goes for nearly 7 decades, but as the Europe Day. Speaking at the ordinary working meeting of the Chisinau Primaria [city government] on Monday, he voiced hope that the Moldovan Parliament will amend the legislation and May 9 will be marked here as the Europe Day. To this end, in 2013 the mayor “reserved the city’s central square for next 100 years as the place where Moldova would be celebrating the Europe Day”. According to the Moldovan legislation, May 9 is a no-work holiday here, whose full official name in Moldova is “The Day of the Victory and Memory of Heroes Fallen for Motherland’s Independence”.
