Victoria Nuland: US supports Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity

The United States of America supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova. Such a statement was made by Victoria Nuland, U.S. assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs.

“The U.S. supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova and the right to choose its future,” said Victoria Nuland during a meeting on Saturday with journalists in Bucharest, quoted by Mediafax news agency.

The American official praised Romania for its commitment to support Moldova’s European integration path. She added that the government in Washington is satisfied with the outcomes achieved by Moldova at the Eastern Partnership Summit of November last year.

According to a press release of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both the Romanian and the American officials welcomed the close relations between Moldova and the European Union, agreeing that a visa-free travel regime for Moldovans should remain a priority in 2014.

Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean stressed that the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s visit to Chisinau in December 2013 has been an important signal of support for the complex reforms undertaken by the Moldovan authorities.
